Website Progress
After creating all of the elements for my website, I have began collating these onto the site. However, I still need to work on the layout if my website in order to make it appeal to an aspirational audience. I originally placed an image as the main page but this makes the page look cluttered and so I aim to change this to keep the website exciting but not overpowering.
Music Video Adjustments
When I originally filmed my music video, I placed my models in front of a very complicated background. However, once placed into the video it looked out of place and over complicated the video. I also wanted to add annotations and this background would make it very difficult.
Animations
I also created animations that are used across my website and video. This use of cross media convergence establishes a sense of brand identity. This helps to build the bands representation and consistent attitude.
Merchandise
In order to create a sense of brand identity, as well as a commercial element to my website, I created a range of merchandise available to fans. These all adopt references from the music video, relying on fans cultural competency of the music video to interpret the references. These can be seen as aspirational as they allow for fans to overtly express their support for the band.
To create the text animations, i used the app ProCreate. I used the onion skin layers to write on each frame and to ensure the writing was roughly in the same place. However, as the music is upbeat, i wanted the writing to reflect this and also the conventions of a scrapbook. Therefore, i chose to make my writing have a paintbrush look and to move around to look as if it was hand drawn.
For the collage that appears in the introduction of my music video, I used both capcut and magic eraser. Cap cut was used for the bulk of my collage but for the images where cutting out the sticker wasn’t as easy I used magic eraser instead.
Reflections and Goals
Reflections:
Over this week, I have produced my first draft of my music video, organising the shots in time with the music. This has also helped me to see where I need to reshoot some footage and where I need extra content. I have also started animating text onto my clips, after organising where they should be. I then sorted through all my images, selecting which will go onto my website and where.
Goals:
1. I need to reshoot some of my performance clips. The background of my performance clips contrast too much with the rest of the video and cause it to be chaotic. My main priority is to arrange a date to shoot these, whereby all of my 'artists' are available.
2. I also need to begin my website, creating it alongside my music video to ensure the brand identity is consistent throughout.
3. My final goal is to continue with my lyric animations. The font on these needs to be consistent as well as the colour palette. They not only need to match throughout the video but need to transcend to the website.
Website Analysis
The main page for most artists signed to Sony immediately promotes their new music and accompanying video. It provides audiences with hyperlinks, taking them to streaming sites where the music is readily available. I aim to use this on my website also. Each website also has links to social media platforms, encouraging audiences to keep up to date with the artists on many different apps.
Each website also has a shop section, almost immediately after the main page. This allows audiences to actively get involved with the artist and promotes their brand identity. I aim to emulate this on my website by creating my own 'merchandise' pictures.
